We have a cockpit section (from just in front of where the pilot sits to just behind where he would have sat) from a crashed Curtiss Helldiver aeroplane. The section is a bit ragged but could be ideal for a display which included a crashed aircraft or for a museum/collector with an interest in the Helldiver. Please e-mail or phone us if you are interested in this item so that we can discuss it.
The Curtiss Helldiver was a Second World War attack bomber, which first served operationally in 1943. They could carry 2000lb of bombs, 1000 internally and 1000 externally. The Helldiver was defended from fighters by two wing mounted cannons and .30 calibre machine gun post in the rear of the aircraft. The Helldiver was nicknamed “the Beast” by crews, possibly partly because of its reputation for being difficult to handle at low airspeeds and possibly also because it was so effective against Japanese targets – The Helldiver destroyed more Japanese property in the pacific than any other aircraft.
