This is an American Wartime air pressure gauge as used in the P-39, P-47 and many other US Second World War aeroplanes. This instrument appears to be in serviceable condition.
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was at the time of construction the heaviest and largest fighter plane that had ever been built. It served as a fighter bomber for all of the Second World War and acquired a reputation for being very strong and durable. So strong in fact that a certain Lieutenant Chetwood managed to ‘lose’ four feet off the end of one of his wings following a slightly misjudged train strafing attempt and yet he still managed to make it home. Over 15,000 P-47s were produced during the war and many of them served in Europe and the Pacific.
