Spitfire Mk IX c 1943
An excellent model hand crafted and painted mahogany, including a fine display stand with aircraft details. This model is a good size, ex display, but in fine condition.
Early 1942 brought the introduction of the superb German Focke-Wulf 190A on the Channel front, which took the RAF by surprise. In initial engagements, this mysterious Luftwaffe aircraft so thoroughly outclassed the best British mount, the newly introduced Spitfire Mk.V that it created a serious morale problem.
The aircraft was rapidly updated with feedback from pilots, and eventually the MK IX was produced. One of the main improvements was larger radiators to improve cooling and performance of the aircraft. The MK IX was also one of the longest production runs.
